The 60-credit Paramedic program at Anoka Technical College exists to educate candidates to be able to successfully complete the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) cognitive and psychomotor exams and be competent entry-level employees.

Anoka Tech's Paramedic degree program follows the National DOT curriculum and is approved by the State of Minnesota.

To prepare competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels.

The paramedic profession is an emerging, rapidly changing profession. Paramedics work in ambulances (in populated areas) and are also working in hospitals, urgent care centers, and other areas of health care. As with other healthcare professions, the future need is great as the paramedic profession continues to evolve.

Wage information is available from the Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

The Anoka Technical College Paramedic program has been issued a Letter of Review by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). This letter is NOT a CAAHEP accreditation status, it is a status signifying that a program seeking initial accreditation has demonstrated sufficient compliance with the accreditation Standards through the Letter of Review Self Study Report (LSSR) and other documentation. Letter of Review is recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) for eligibility to take the NREMT's Paramedic credentialing examination(s). However, it is NOT a guarantee of eventual accreditation.

Minnesota Law requires that any person who provides services that involve direct contact with patients and/or residents at a health care facility licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health; have a background study conducted by the state.

Minnesota does not participate in the EMS Personnel Licensure Interstate CompACT so at this time we are unable to determine if our programs education requirements meet the licensure requirements in any state besides Minnesota.

While  our EMT/EMS/Paramedics programs lead to national certification with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians which is a requirement in most states, there are additional requirements in each state and, therefore, we are unable to determine if our program will meet those additional requirements without additional research.
