The Anoka Technical College Turf and Golf Course Management Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree is a 60-credit program that is completely online. This online program prepares students to be employed in turf, golf course, sports fields, and grounds management industries. The courses are designed to help individuals manage the operations of turf and golf courses, which include but not limited to turf grass, golf course design and construction, grounds equipment and operation, pest control, grounds management and client communication.

  1. Collaborate effectively with others in situations requiring team-work, leadership and negotiations.
  2. Integrate sustainable golf course grounds management cultural practices with conventional cultural practices.
  3. Apply technical and theoretical skills and knowledge to golf course situations.
  4. Anticipate biological issues within field-related situations and conditions.
  5. Research, organize, and interpret information from various technical sources.

This career involves supervising and directing all operations at the golf course. This includes but is not limited to coordinating sched-ules of tournaments, lessons, golf teams and regular tee-off times. In the golf course profession, one must have solid financial skills, have strong record-keeping and marketing skills to promote events held at the golf course.

Anoka Technical College Turf and Golf Course Technician diploma is a 45-credit program that is completely online. This online program helps individuals understand the importance of caring for natural and artificial turfs by mowing, watering, fertilizing, and aerating the turf regularly. The Turf and Golf Course Technician program prepares students to work in several different areas including, but not limited to athletic fields, golf courses and parks.

  1. Collaborate effectively with others in situations requiring team-work, leadership and negotiations.
  2. Integrate sustainable golf course grounds management cultural practices with conventional cultural practices.
  3. Apply technical and theoretical skills and knowledge to golf course situations.
  4. Anticipate biological issues within field-related situations and conditions.
  5. Research, organize, and interpret information from various technical sources.

The Turf and Golf Course profession works to achieve a pleasant and functional outdoor environment for many places, such as golf courses or athletic fields. Some of these jobs are seasonal and are mainly available in spring, summer and fall. This work can be repetitive and physically demanding, requiring frequent bending, kneeling, lifting and shoveling.
