Close collaboration with instructors has always shaped Jaimie Maxcy’s learning experience.

“I grew up attending a one-room country school with, at most, 12 kids including myself,” said Maxcy ’25. “We had a lot of focused attention and small group work. I really thrived in that environment.”

When Maxcy decided to pursue a career change, the personalized approach of Anoka Tech’s Architectural Technology program felt familiar.

“I was feeling dissatisfied with where I was professionally,” she said. “I’ve always been interested in drafting, architecture, engineering, really anything related to building and construction.”

After visiting the college and meeting the program director, Maxcy felt an immediate connection. “I loved what the program had to offer and applied right away.”

She appreciated the flexibility of the online format, which allowed her to balance a full-time job and volunteer commitments while studying. Despite completing the program remotely, Maxcy made a point to visit campus for open learning labs and to connect with program faculty Dan Iund and Dawn Wirtz.

“I’ve had many great conversations with Dan and Dawn about the industry,” she said. “Their insight has been incredibly helpful and encouraging. It’s helped me grow both personally and professionally.”
