All students attending Anoka Technical College are encouraged to take advantage of our free tutoring service.  Tutors provide encouragement, and will help you develop skills and strategies to succeed in college.  Visit the links below to learn more:

Math Lab

Assistance is provided on an individual and/or small group basis to any student attending Anoka Technical College.  Tutoring is provided by Math Lab Assistants and part-time tutors, including a retired Anoka Technical college math instructor and a team of Peer Tutors, for subjects including basic math, dosage calculations, technical math, and higher level math.

One-on-one tutoring appointments can be made with a Math Lab Assistant Monday through Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  A sign-up sheet is available in the Math Lab.

The Math Lab is located in Room 173.  Appointments are not necessary, walk-ins are welcome.  Hours of operation may vary, check the Student Support Services schedule for the latest information.

Writing Center

Assistance is provided on an individual and/or small group basis to any student attending Anoka Technical College.  Tutored subjects in the Writing Center include all courses taught at Anoka Technical College that involve writing activities, with a special emphasis in English Composition courses. 

The Writing Tutors are located in the Writing Center, Room 130.  Walk-ins are welcome, appointments are available as well.  Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Later sessions are available by appointment. 

Online tutoring is also available at our online Desire2Learn (D2L) site.  Log in to D2L with the Username"atcwriting," and the Password, "atcwriting," and then follow the instructions for posting your writing assignment.  Turn-around time is 24-48 hours.

Peer Tutor Program 

Peer tutoring is available to all Anoka Technical College students.  If you cannot attend informal routinely scheduled small group sessions or simply prefer to work with a tutor one-on-one, print the Student Request for Peer Tutoring Services form.  Complete and submit as directed.  Contact Peer Tutor Coordinator Julie Packer to learn what additional hours may be available.

What is peer tutoring?

Peer Tutors

  • help students improve academic performance.
  • help students become independent learners. 
  • are available to all ATC students.
  • provide academic assistance free of charge.

The service is routinely offered in small group sessions as well as one-on-one.  

Who are the peer tutors?

Peer Tutors are fellow students enrolled in the same program as you.  They are recommended by faculty as having exceptional knowledge and skills in their area of study.  Trained Peer Tutors have a welcoming attitude and enjoy working with other students.

I don't know how to use a computer.  Can a peer tutor help?

Peer tutors not only provide help with technical coursework, they can also help you acquire basic computer skills.  Learn how to

  • work with basic software programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer). 
  • use the mouse to navigate.
  • open, save, or print a file.
  • search the Internet.
  • check your e-mail account.
  • access and use your Desire2Learn (D2L) account.

Program areas are continually being added as this new tutoring program develops.  Get a copy of the latest Peer Tutor Schedule at the Academic Resource Center reception desk. 

How do I get started?

Students who wish to receive peer tutor services:

  • Stop by the Academic Resource Center reception desk to view the most current Peer Tutor Schedule.   
  • Walk-ins welcome, no need for appointment.
  • Informal study groups meet routinely.
  • If you wish to work with a peer tutor on days/times other than those noted on the schedule, submit a Student Request to Receive Peer Tutor Services form.

Can I work with a peer tutor one-on-one?

Yes, depending on availability.  Pick up a Request for Peer Tutor Services form at the Academic Resource Center (ARC) reception desk.  Or download the form then submit to the ARC Receptionist.  Peer Tutor Coordinator Julie Packer will contact you to schedule sessions depending on peer tutor availability.

How can I become a peer tutor?

All potential Peer Tutors must be recommended by faculty to tutor for their program.  Students can begin the application process by
