The goal of Anoka Technical College is to provide reasonable accommodations to students with a documented disability. Accommodations are designed to allow students to participate fully in the program of their choice.
The Office on Disabilities provides services for students, faculty and staff with a permanent or temporary disability. We strive to provide individuals with the tools by which they can accomplish their educational and career goals.

Prior to your appointment, submit (1) appropriate documentation/records regarding your disability, and (2) the Application for Accommodations. Appropriate documentation is recent, comes from a certified professional, and clearly states the diagnosis.

The Office on Disabilities is located in the Success Center, Suite 190, Room 190-L. Enter from the main corridor.
The Traveler provides transportation for individuals with special needs. Metro Mobility, a program of the Metropolitan Council oversees all ADA Paratransit Service in the Twin Cities.
Anoka Technical College provides multiple parking spaces with the designated international symbol for disabled parking. Students and employees who have a State of Minnesota disabilities license plate or a temporary/permanent parking permit may park in any of those locations. All main entrances are equipped with power-assisted doors. The elevator in Building A (providing access to Auditoriums A and B) is the only location on campus which is not at ground level.
Temporary parking for individuals who require closer parking because of surgery/injury may also be provided by the Office on Disabilities. Documentation from your medical doctor will be required; length of time special parking privileges are needed must be noted.
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
You are responsible to provide the Office on Disabilities with documentation, test reports, and/or school records relating to your disability and requested accommodations. This confidential information will be revealed ONLY by written consent from the student. This information will help the Office on Disabilities provide reasonable academic accommodations and support services.
Request accommodations as early as possible. Though we try to honor late requests, we cannot guarantee immediate results. Immediate assistance may be limited due to resource availability.

To set up accommodations:
Make an appointment to meet with the Office on Disabilities Coordinator by calling (763) 576-4766. Make your appointment as soon as you have your course schedule to allow time to implement accommodations.
Bring appropriate documentation from a professional source regarding your disability to your appointment. Appropriate documentation is recent, comes from a certified professional, and clearly states the diagnosis. If approved, your faculty/staff will be notified so accommodations can be provided.
Students must meet with the Office on Disabilities Coordinator prior to each semester so arrangements can be made.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Accommodations cannot be backdated or provided for tests/exams already taken.
Sign language interpreting services are defined as assisting with communication between deaf or hard of hearing people and hearing people. Interpreters are available for classroom, lab, and tutored sessions as well as for meetings with varied college personnel.

The Office on Disabilities will try to honor requests for specific interpreters, but cannot guarantee requests will be fulfilled. Interpreter availability is a major factor.
Note-takers are sometimes necessary during lectures so deaf and hard of hearing students can concentrate fully on the lecture. The Office on Disabilities has purchased Kurzweil, an award winning software that makes printed or electronic text readily available to people who are blind or visually impaired. It combines accessibility, communication, and productivity tools to ease and enhance reading, writing, and learning.
