The Anoka Technical College Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) program offers two Electronic Controls Technician awards: an associate in applied science (AAS) degree and a diploma.


The Electronic Controls associate in applied science (AAS) degree emphasis is a 72-credit program. The program combines a thorough understanding of how computers and machines communicate as well as system level troubleshooting, modular machine design, and a solid education in electronic engineering technology fundamentals. Students are prepared to integrate software design with hardware design and how to analyze and implement feedback control systems (automation).

*For the AAS Degree: Eighteen (18) general education credits of Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) are required. Student is required to take: MATH 1700 Pre-Calculus, 5-credits. The remaining 13 credits must be taken from one or more Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC) goal areas so at least two more goal areas are covered.

**Additional MATH courses may be needed to prepare for Pre-Calculus. MATH 801 Basic Math, MATH 1400 Algebra and Trigonometry, or MATH 900 Elementary & Intermediate Algebra are extra courses to assist in prepraring for Pre-Calculus.

Graduation Requirements

All Anoka Technical College students must demonstrate basic competency in Math, English, and Reading. Competency may be demonstrated through achieving minimum cut scores in new student assessments (Accuplacer); through other assessment exemptions; or through successful completion of Basic Math, Basic English, and Reading courses, earning a “C” or higher before receiving a diploma or an associate in applied science degree.

Transfer Opportunities

The Anoka Technical College Electronic Controls Technician emphasis associate in applied science (AAS) program has credit transferability to the A+ Personal Computer Support Technician diploma; Computer Servicing/Networking Technician associate in applied science (AAS); Electronic Controls Technician emphasis associate in applied science (AAS); Special Electronics Technician diploma; Electronic Technician diploma; Computer Servicing/Networking Technician diploma, Special Electronics Technician diploma, and Electric Certificate I, and Electronic Certificate II programs.

For students who want to continue their education and obtain their four-year degree, the Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) program, has articulation agreements with Minnesota State University (Mankato), Minnesota State University (Moorhead), Bemidji State University, and University of Minnesota Crookston. Students can complete most of these four-year degrees through online courses.

As part of the Electronic Engineering Technology (EET) program, Electronic Controls Technician associate in applied science (AAS) degree provides students with the technical knowledge and practical experience necessary for an exciting career in electronics, automation and controls, computer servicing/ networking, medical equipment servicing or engineering support.

Wage/Outlook/Advancement

The Anoka Technical College 20-credit Special Electronic Technical emphasis is a great addition to any of the EET programs.

The Special Electronic Technical emphasis is an individualized degree program that requires pre-approval from the electronic engineering department chairperson. See your program advisor for more information.
