Placement Tests (ACCUPLACER)

At Anoka Technical College placement testing is required for all students to assess current skills levels in reading, writing, and math. Although the test is not pass/fail, results do determine what course placements are most appropriate for student success.

Why taking time to do your best matters
Students who score at the college-level will save significant tuition and textbook dollars otherwise necessary for developmental or remedial coursework. Remedial courses do not count toward a certificate, diploma or degree and typically do not transfer.

Prepare for testing
Students are strongly encouraged to study before testing. Please note the official Accuplacer Sample Test includes multiple sub-tests. At Anoka Tech, students should prepare to take the following sub-tests:

Sentence Skills, Reading Comprehension, Arithmetic

Students enrolling in programs that include college-level math coursework may also take these sub-tests:

Elementary Algebra, College-level Mathematics

Test from Another MnSCU Campus

You have the option to take ACCUPLACER at any Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) system campus (view campus location map).

You are responsible to:

  • Schedule your test at the college of your choice.
  • Ask the other MnSCU campus Test Administrator to distance proctor your test from Anoka Tech's Accuplacer testing Web site.
  • Notify Anoka Tech's Testing Center when placement testing has been completed from another location. Call them at 763-576-7830.

Test from an Out-of-State Location

Students who wish to test for Anoka Tech from an out-of-state location may do so by locating a proctor from a Testing Center or academic institution closer to their current location. If a proctor fee is required, students are responsible for payment.

Once the proctor has agreed to proctor Accuplacer from the Anoka Tech testing Web site, students should submit the Request to Take Accuplacer at a Remote Location form to the Anoka Tech Testing Center. Students may then schedule their test session with the distance proctor, providing notice to the Anoka Tech Testing Center as well to facilitate access to the testing Web site.

Contact the Anoka Tech Testing Center at (763) 576-7830 with questions or concerns.

Students that are not satisfied with their placements may retest. There is a $10 retest fee for each retest attempt. Students are strongly encouraged to review before retesting. There is no waiting period prior to retesting, with the exception of students retesting to meet federal Ability to Benefit guidelines.
