Interlibrary loan
Interlibrary loan

The Library Media Center shares materials back and forth with other libraries.  If you plan ahead, you can order a book or article that will arrive in three to fourteen days.  Articles frequently arrive via e-mail -- verify that the library has your current e-mail address.

How to borrow books

To borrow a book from another library, go to the "MnPALS Union Catalog".  From the results of your search, select the title you desire, then click on "ILL Request" button in the Gold Bar above the search results.  You may first be asked to log in with your ID barcode number (14 digits) and your password (your last name).  Once you have logged in, click the "ILL Request" button in the gold bar above the search results again, and complete the form.

In addition to your User ID/barcode and password, the following fields must be completed in the form:  "Title", "Not Needed After", and a Check in the box agreeing to the conditions of Copyright.  Click on "Go" once this information is completed.

(The ID/barcode number is the number on the back of your picture ID below the barcode. You must be registered with the Library Media Center to be able to use this feature.)

How to borrow articles

If you've located an abstract in a library database that does not have the full-text article attached, there is a possibility that we have the article available in print or in another database.  For newspapers, search the Proquest Newspaper or Lexis-Nexis Academic databases for full-text.  Check our "periodicals list" to determine if we subscribe to the print title.

Some of the Library Media Center's databases have a "request via interlibrary loan" link.  If there is no link, simply print the article's abstract and bring it to the library counter.
