Students at Anoka Tech will get new e-mail addresses late fall 2011
Students should continue using thier METNET account until the new service is implemented.
Later this fall (Nov. - Dec.), Anoka Technical College will begin using Microsoft Outlook Live for its student e-mail service. Before December 31, 2011, all students at Anoka Tech will have an e-mail address ending in my.anokatech.edu. E-mail will be the official medium for communicating with students.
More than just a FREE e-mail service, my.anokatech.edu will give students:
- 25GB of online file storage
- Mobile phone alerts
- Group calendaring
- Blogging tool
- Access from any laptop or mobile device that has an Internet connection.
Do I have to have a my.anokatech.edu e-mail account?
YES! Your my.anokatech.edu e-mail account will be Anoka Tech’s official medium for communicating with students. Anoka Tech will rely on your college e-mail address to correspond with you about financial aid, registration, important dates and canceled classes. It is also the account your instructors will use for your online instruction. Through your my.anokatech.edu account, you will be able to communicate with your instructor and other classmates.
What do I have to do to get a my.anokatech.edu account?
Once the service is fully installed, existing and new students will have to activate their accounts. Directions on how to activate your account will be posted here as well as posted at various places throughout the campus.
Why can’t I keep my METNET account?
The Metropolitan Educational Telecommunications Network (METNET) has contracted with the University of Minnesota to provide student e-mail services for metropolitan MnSCU institutions for the past 15 years. The University of Minnesota will be retiring the e-mail service and will be moving to an outside e-mail service. After Jan. 1, 2012, METNET e-mails will no longer be available and messages delivered to METNET e-mail addresses will bounce back as undeliverable. All METNET member institutions have either already moved to another e-mail service, or are in the process of making that move.
Anoka Tech carefully reviewed alternatives and evaluated costs and capabilities of several e-mail services and decided to move to Microsoft Outlook Live.
