RPZ (Reduced Pressure Zone) / Backflow Prevention
Public health officials have long been concerned about cross-connections and backflow connections in plumbing systems and in public drinking water supply distribution systems. Such cross-connections, which make possible the contamination of potable water, are ever-present dangers.
This class will present the dangers through the discussion of actual incidents which have occurred, what mistakes were made, and how they were remedied.
Other key topics include: Mechanics of Backflow Prevention, major Manufacturers of RPZ Products, testing Gauges, troubleshooting, MN Department of Health Regulations, MN State Code, proper Record Keeping and Reporting.
This class will be 40 hours of lecture and lab. Many types of RPZ devices will be discussed and demonstrated by factory reps.
A portion of the last class period will be devoted to completing the RPZ Certification Test. The test contains a written segment and hands-on segment. A score of 70% or better is passing.
