Six Sigma Green Belt Training 

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training develops people into team leaders and problem-solvers who can regularly improve processes within their local areas and functions.  Following the disciplined Six Sigma DMAIC (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control) road map, this course teaches you how to collect and analyze performance data, identify inefficiencies and problems, pinpoint root causes, and institute new protocols to greatly improve processes. In addition to teaching the complementary methodologies of Lean and Six Sigma, this course also provides skills in leading teams through the process of change.

Most importantly, this course has a practical and applied focus. Taught by a Six Sigma Master Black Belt, with real-world experience, this course features interactive lectures, group exercises, process and tool simulations, individual exercises and the application of learning to a real improvement project in the workplace.  Through mentoring and coaching the instructor provides direct and focused support so participants can successfully pass their final exam and complete their project to gain Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification. 


Instructor

Tom Moore is a managing partner at True North Consulting.  Tom has 25+ years’ experience in management (and industry) and has consulted with a variety of organizations (and leaders) in creating operational excellence in manufacturing and business process.  Tom is a Lean Sensei and Six Sigma Master Belt and Scrum Master. He also holds a BS in Training and Development, Masters in Organizational Development and Human Systems, and doctorate in Human Organizational Systems.

Dates and time

Class runs from 8 am to 5 pm. (Lunch and snacks will be provided each day.)
Monday, October 3, 2016 to Wednesday, October 5, 2016
(Training Days 1,2 and 3) 
Break - Time Given to Work on Green Belt Project.
Monday, November 7, 2016 to Wednesday, November 9, 2016
(Training Days 4,5 and 6)
Thursday, December 8, 2016 - All Projects Should Be Completed.


Requirements:

Participants should come to class with a project vetted and approved by their organization’s management. Participants will need a laptop and MS Excel 2013 or later.


What makes a good Lean Six Sigma Green Belt project?

  • Customer impactThe successful outcome of the project will have a material impact on customers’ (internal or external) perceptions of quality.
  • Process stabilityThe process is relatively stable.
  • Defect definitionThe process defect is well defined.
  • Data availability Data is readily available around the process metrics or collected without too much effort.
  • Solution clarityThe solution should not be already known.
  • BenefitsAn appropriately vetted project should demonstrate the value of the project to the process owners.
  • Impact on service quality The project results should contribute to enhancing overall service quality along the delivery value chain.
  • Project sponsorshipThe project is supported by the process owners and organizational leadership.
  • Project alignmentThe project aligns with corporate strategic objectives.
  • Project timelineThe project be completed within a reasonably short time period (8 to 10 weeks).
  • Probability of implementationPractitioners have a high probability of actually implementing a solution to the problem (assuming a correct solution will be identified), taking into account the level of acceptance or resistance by the organization or department.
  • Investment The cost to fix the problem does not include large capital investment.
  • Team availabilityThis takes into account the amount of time key team members have to support this project, especially if they are also responsible for other day-to-day functions.

Upon course completion, you will be able to:

Employ Lean Six Sigma skills to
lead a successful DMAIC process improvement project that delivers meaningful results to your organization.
 

Apply such Lean concepts as 5S, waste reduction, mistake proofing and value stream mapping.

Formulate basic statistical analyses to determine the relationship between key inputs and process outputs.

Apply DMAIC to solve business issues and transition projects from phase to phase.

Effectively manage team dynamics and recognize how to work with leadership.

Prepare and present project reports and presentations to peers and management.
